15 Effective Remedies And Tips To Remove Skin Tan


With summer, comes major problems like hot temperatures, sweat, sun burn, skin tan, etc.,  Sitting beside the pool side after swimming is nice, but over exposure to sun makes your skin look tan and dark.

What is skin tan?

When the Ultra violet rays reach the lower layer of the skin and when skin penetrates it, then skin becomes dark and tan. Melanin is the pigment in the skin, which helps from burning. Darker people turn out to be more dark in sun, as melanocytes produce more melanin and becomes more dark. Not only skin tan, but over exposure to sun, will raise major skin diseases like sun burn, skin cancer, which are hard to cure. (Read : Face masks for white skin)

Lemon, honey and sugar:

Lemon, honey and sugar


  • Lemon: half sliced
  • Honey: 2 tsp
  • Sugar: 3 tsp

Prep time : 5 min

How to prepare?

  • Take half sliced lemon and squeeze the juice
  • Now add honey and sugar
  • Apply and leave for 20 min and wash off with lukewarm water

Why lemon and sugar?

  • Lemon contains anti-lightening agents which removes tan and makes skin light. Sugar is the scrub, which sheds off the dead skin cells and gives glowing skin. Honey makes skin soft and glowing. (Read: How to remove skin tags)

Note: You can also directly rub the lemon or apply juice on the face for better results

Potato :



  • Potato: Sliced or juice

Prep time : 5 min

How to prepare?

  • Take a fresh potato and peel off
  • Extract the juice and apply on the face


  • Slice the thin potato and apply all over the face
  • leave it for 20 min and wash off

Why potato?

  • Potato contains bleaching and skin lightening agents, which lightens the skin by removing tan and gibes glowing skin within 15 days

  • Tomato: 2 tbsp

Prep time : 5 min

How to apply?

  • Take yogurt and tomato pulp
  • Mix it well and apply on the face
  • Rest it for 30 min and wash off with lukewarm water

Why yogurt and Tomato?

Note : You can also rub plain yogurt or plain tomato on the skin separately.

Bengal gram, rose water, turmeric:

  • Bengal gram flour: 4 tbsp
  • Rose water: To make paste
  • Turmeric: 1 tsp

Prep time: 5 min

How to prepare?

  • Take 4 tbsp of Bengal gram(chana dal) and turmeric
  • Add rose water to make fine paste
  • Now apply on the face and let it rest until pat dry
  • Wash off with lukewarm water

What happens?

Red lentils, aloe vera, Tomato face pack:

  • Red lentils(masoor dal)flour: 2 tbsp
  • Tomato juice : 1 tbsp
  • Aloe vera gel: 1 tbsp

Prep time: 10 min

How to prepare?

  • Take red lentil powder and add to it tomato and aloe vera gel
  • Mix it properly, until it becomes a face pack
  • Apply the pack and pat dry and wash off with cold water

What happens?

The skin becomes lighter and glowing. Red lentil powder contains antioxidants, which removes skin tan. The lightening agents of tomato and sensitive properties to fight skin tan in aloevera, makes the perfect skin tan pack.

Bitter gourd:

  • Bitter gourd: 1

How to prepare?

  • Take one bitter gourd and extract the juice
  • Apply the juice on skin tan and sun burns
  • Leave it for 20 min and wash off with cold water

Note: This must be done twice a day

What happens?

Honey and pineapple:

  • Honey: 1 tbsp
  • Pine apple pulp: 2 tbsp

Prep time: 10 min

How to prepare?

  • Take pine apple pulp, mix it with honey and 2 ice cubes
  • Now mix these two and apply on the face
  • Leave it for 20 min and wash off with lukewarm water

What happens?

Rice flour, Tomato, honey and yogurt:

  • Rice flour: 2 tsp
  • Tomato pulp: 1 tsp
  • honey: 1 tsp
  • yogurt: 1 tsp

Prep time: 15 min

How to prepare?

  • Take all of these ingredients and mix well
  • When it becomes face pack
  • Apply on face and neck.
  • Leave it until pat dry
  • Wash off with cold water

Note: Do this thrice a week for better results

What happens?

  • Rice flour removes skin pigmentation; this pack is used since ancient times and is successful

Sandalwood powder and coconut water or rose water:

  • Sandalwood powder: 2 tbsp
  • Coconut water: for paste
  • Rose water: for paste

Prep time: 5 mins

How to prepare:

  • Take sandalwood powder and mix it with coconut water to make paste
  • Apply on the affected area and leave for 20 min or pat dry
  • Wash off with cold water

What happens?

  • Sandalwood powder rejuvenates skin, works on sun burn and skin tan. Coconut water works for any type of skin disease. When these both are combined, it becomes perfect skin tan pack

Quick tips

Coconut milk:

Wipe coconut milk on the face in the morning, with cotton ball. Let it for 10 min and wash off


Rub the slices of cucumber on affected areas as it contains soothing and cooling properties


Extract gel from aloevera leaf and wipe off on the face. Let it rest for 15 minutes and wash off

Milk :

Wipe your face with raw coconut milk in the morning and evening

Green tea:

Take some green tea, brew it and wipe your face with green tea and cotton ball

Vicks vaporub:

Some studies have shown that by applying vicks on the affected areas and sun burn, will show good results

Apply SPF lotion:

While going out apply sunscreen lotion with SPF 13, as these will avoid entering UV rays into the skin layers

Cover your skin:

Cover your skin with scarf or cloth, while going out

Clean your skin:

After coming out from hot sun, just clean your skin with good cleanser, so that the dust does not gets settled in to it

Make the most of it and see the results as these are much effective. Skin tan is most sensitive and hard to remove so take care.
