7 Uses And Benefits Of Glycerine For Hair

We use lot of products and home remedies to protect our hair, from damage, dust and pollution. One such all in one product is glycerine. Glycerine is the thick liquid which is used for skin and hair as well. Glycerine also called as glycerol is a thick liquid substance which is colourless, odourless and with some sugar and alcohol in it. Glycerine is extracted from plants, vegetables or any synthetic process. Glycerine acts as humectants which takes moisture and water from air and supplies to skin and hair. Glycerine helps a lot for the skin, but for the hair also it does lot of stuff.  

What Does Glycerine Do for hair?

1. Moisturize hair:

Glycerine moisturizes and makes hair long and strength. Glycerin acts as humectants, which absorbs water from air and binds it to hair follicles and scalp. By doing so, hair becomes moisturized and soft

How to apply?

  • Take 2 tbsp of glycerine with 1 tbsp of water
  • Dilute it well and pour it in a spray bottle
  • Spray the mix on the hair and scalp and massage
  • Let it be for 20 min and wash off with shampoo
  • This must be done before bath

2.Helps in Hair Growth:

As glycerine act as humectants, it captures moisture and binds hair with it. The hydration of hair avoids dry hair, split ends, removes dead skin cells, promotes new hair follicle to grow long and strong

How to apply?

  • Take an egg and beat it
  • Add 3 tbsp of glycerine and 2 tsp of castor oil
  • Mix it well and apply with brush
  • Leave it for 20 min and wash off
  • Do this once a week

Castor oil helps in growing hair thick and long. Egg helps in hair growth and makes hair shinny and conditioned.

3. Glycerine as Conditioner:

How to use?

  • After hair wash with shampoo
  • Take the conditioner in the bowl and add 2 tbsp of glycerine
  • Mix well and apply as conditioner to hair
  • Leave for 5 min and rinse off
  • This acts as conditioner your hair, where you can style your hair as your wish

  • You can also add 10 ml of glycerine to 50 ml of conditioner bottle.
  • Shake well and use often

4. Removes Split Ends :

It works on the hair follicles, cuticles and dry scalp. Dry scalp and dry hair is the reason for split ends. To avoid split ends apply glycerine with this mix

How to use?

  • Take 3 tbsp of glycerine with 2 tsp of honey and water
  • Dilute it well
  • Apply and massage on scalp and hair
  • Leave for 20 min and wash off with lukewarm water

Honey is the antibiotic, which cures dead skin cells and repairs dry hair and scalp

5. Treats Dandruff :

Glycerine when mixed with apple cider vinegar, it works on the dandruff and get rids off quite easily

How to use?

  • Take 2 tsp of glycerine with 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar
  • Apply the solution on the scalp
  • Massage it well and leave for 20 min
  • Wash off with lukewarm water
  • This must be done once in 15 days

Apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature which works and removes dandruff

6. Helps from Hair Fall:

How to use?

  • Take 1 tsp of glycerine and coconut oil each
  • Mix well and apply on the scalp

  • Wash off with lukewarm water
  • Do this once a week

  • Take 2 tbsp of fresh aloe vera gel
  • Dilute it with 2 tbsp of glycerine
  • Apply the pack on the scalp and hair
  • Leave it for about 20 min and wash off with luke warm water
  • Do this once in a 15 days to avoid hair thinning

Bottom line:

Always go for scalp test before applying glycerine, because sometimes it may cause allergy to scalp and hair
