Boost Respiratory Functions and Immunity with Ayurvedic Nasya Treatment

Nasya for Sinusitis, Migraine and Allergies

Ayurvedic medicine is rich in non-traditional treatment focusing on the self-regulating dosha forces – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The tradition also involves the use of natural herbs to boost healing and form a holistic approach towards a person’s physical and mental health.

One ayurvedic treatment fitting these days is Nasya, the traditional Ayurvedic practice of straightening the respiratory system and keeping your immune system strong. Its efficacy does not just come from being just a curative option but a holistic approach to keeping respiratory components healthy.

Nasya is Part of the Panchakarma Therapy

Panchakarma offers a wide spectrum of purification and rejuvenation techniques to kick start the body’s healing mechanism. It is considered as both science and an art, helping reinvigorate your body’s systems to restore body and mind balance.

The concept of panchakarma significantly considers the human’s relationship with the universe and how humans formed as part of the unique cosmic phenomenon. Man’s consciousness manifests itself through the combination of the basic elements, air, water, fire, earth, and ether.

Nasya is one of the five basic Shodanas or cleansing methods instilled in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. The main doctrine of Nasya considers the nose as the doorway to the brain and a person’s consciousness.

Administering the right herbal oil through the nasal passage affects a person’s mind, his prana Vata (reasoning and creative thinking), Majja Dhatu (nervous system), Sadhaka Pitta (heart), and Tarpaka Kapha (brain lubricants).

Strengthen Your Nasal and Sinus Cavity with Ayurvedic Oil

Nasya is one of the powerful and effective procedures to cleanse and detoxify your nasopharyngeal cavities. The process includes using Ayurvedic oil called ghee infused with natural herbs and flowers like basil, henna, rose, and jasmine.

This treatment is an effective remedy for certain respiratory problems like rhinitis, nasal allergies, sinusitis, headaches, congestion, migraine, and many other problems originating from the nasal cavity.

The use of herbal oils while inhaling creates a powerful remedy as it is absorbed by the system to clear your nasal passages. Nonetheless, the effects of Nasya are not just on the surface level. Administering the herbal concoction creates a harmonious effect on the brain, systemically promoting both your physical and mental condition.

Understanding the Three Types of Nasya Cleansing According to Functions

There are three main types of Nasya treatment, each with its power to affect the human body. These techniques were gathered from ancient writings that rely on the healing abilities of the human body and natural oils and other remedies.

Ayurvedic treatment incorporates the use of products which are mainly derived from natural sources. It includes plants, animal byproducts, mineral substances, and metal to form a holistic approach. Diet, lifestyle changes, and exercise are often integrated into the whole treatment to ensure the efficacy of the whole healthcare system.

  • Shodhana Nasya.

The cleansing Nasya is typically used for ailments like headaches, nasal congestion, and colds. It uses the decoction of the appropriate herb combined with hone, fermented Asava, and salt.

  • Brismana Nasya.

Using the combination of meat juice, healing oil, and plant extracts like gum or camphor, Brismana Nasya effectively treats head ailments like migraine, vision problems, earache, eye tremors, and toothaches, among others.

  • Shamana Nasya.

Sedative Nasya uses water, milk, or meat juice mixed with Vacha oil or Tikta ghee for the treatment of premature wrinkle and greying hair, dandruff, eye redness, and other hair and eye diseases.

Further classifications and categorization of Nasya therapies are done based on the oil quantity used during a treatment process. Shenaya Nasya is subdivided into Pratimarsha and Marsha Nasya, both working with similar principles, but differ on the amount of oil and substance use.

A Drug-free Nasal Treatment and Prevention of Respiratory Problems

Nasal provocation using natural remedies is highly regarded in the Indian culture as one of the best treatments for certain respiratory conditions and head-related diseases. Allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, eye diseases, and various neurological conditions are caused by imbalances in a person’s dosha forces.

One traditional therapy that has been thoroughly explored over centuries is Ayurveda and the Nasya technique of detoxifying the head.  A critical concept that stands in the Ayurvedic medicine is that health can only be achieved with the balance of the three doshas or bio-elements bile, wind, and phlegm (Pitta, Vata, and Kapha.)

These days, people see the relevance of keeping their respiratory and head health as illnesses like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, and asthma become a worldwide health concern.

Keeping your doshas balanced through the healing properties of Ayurveda and Nasha treatment improves your Prana flow through the process of opening and cleansing channels in your head.
