Pregnancy is the beautiful journey, every women dreams of. Being pregnant is a dream and a boon and this boon must be taken care of very affectionately.

Care in the sense of eating habits, physical activities, relaxing and no stress mood, plans for new comer, etc., Talking about eating habits, healthy eating is preferred rather than all the garbage food intake, where most of them prefer.

Tips regarding food habits during pregnancy:

  • Consult your gyneacologists for good, better and healthy eating.
  • Follow a diet chart for each month.
  • Take fiber fresh veggies and fruits with juices.
  • Prefer solids in the lunch and juices in the evening snacks.
  • Never think of any diet, as the risk of baby’s weight shedding down is possible.

  • Wash your hands properly while eating and cooking.
  • Cook the meat to the fullest, never leave it half-cooked.

Here are the foods to be avoided during pregnancy:

Raw and uncooked meat : Raw and uncooked or partially cooked meat is to be avoided entirely. by eating them, you have the tendency of affecting with bacteria like “toxoplasmosis” and “salmonella”.

‘Toxoplasmosis’ is contaminated by eating raw meat and results in fetus infection, premature birth, jaundice and some times to abortion.

‘Salmonella’ is the poisonous bacteria and the symptoms like bacteria in blood, dehydration, etc.,

Consume Fish but not high-mercury levels in fish :

Fish contains supplements like iron, omega 3 fatty acids, proteins, vitamins, which is very healthy for baby and mom.

But fishes high in mercury levels needs to be avoided. These are the fishes which are found in oceans, streams and lakes. These fishes have methylmercury a neurotoxin which is toxic to pregnant woman and baby too. By eating these, have the risk of food-borne illness, nervous system, immune system, abortion. Limit to the fullest or just 6 ounces per week.

Avoid these 4 fishes during pregnancy:

  • Tilefish from the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Swordfish.
  • Shark.
  • King mackerel.
  • Tuna.

Raw eggs :

Raw eggs or semi-cooked eggs are to be avoided totally. These contains “salmonella” bacteria, which leads to fever, nausea, vomiting, premature birth, cramps in infection.

  • Foods which contain raw eggs are.
  • Poached eggs.
  • Lightly scrambled eggs.
  • Homemade mayonnaise.
  • Salad dressings.
  • Cake icings.
  • Homemade ice cream.

Avoid caffeine :

Avoid caffeine

Avoid caffeine for the first 3 mth of pregnancy period. Over intake of caffeine may lead to miscarriage or low-birth weight in infants. Every one has the habit of taking hot cup of coffee just reduce it to 200 mg per day. Caffeine has the tendency to passage of urine more promptly, this will lead to water and calcium loss. In place of caffeine, take water, juices, milk and coconut water.

Avoid alcohol :

Not even a single drop of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. Consumption of alcohol will lead to “Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders” (FASD), a major disturbances to neurological, physical and mental conditions of mom, baby and to breast feeders also. If you are expecting, just stop drinking alcohol as soon as possible.

Wash vegetables properly :

Wash vegetable before cooking, as they contain bacteria, pesticides, parasites and toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis and pesticides will affect fetus infection, low birth weight, premature birth, blindness or brain damage.

Stop taking unpasteurized milk, cheese or any dairy products :

The unpasteurized or raw milk contains harmful bacteria like salmonella, campylobacter, lister. These are infectious and causes a severe damage to unborn and mom too.

Pasteurised dairy products will kill the bacteria and can be consumed without any second thought.

No to junk food and outside food :

Simply no to processed junk food, as they are low in nutritional value, contains fat, sugar and salt.

During pregnancy these are taken, then there are the chances of over-weight, delivery complication, baby born with over-weight, type-2 diabetes, heart problems, long-term complications.

Papaya :

Indians strongly oppose papaya and raw-papaya as they contain ‘latex’, a milk juice, which when gets into body, gets urine contractions, loss of water and finally to abortion. There are cases found that consuming papaya will lead to abortion.

Grapes :

It is still in the discussion, whether grapes are good or bad for pregnant women. grapes contains chemical called resveratrol, which cause toxic, indigestion, vomiting and nausea. Intake of too many grapes will lead to diarrhoea and Loose motions, which in turn leads to water loss in womb, abortion.

In the first trimester, avoid pineapple to the full extent. Pineapple contains bromelain, which softens the cervix, which results in early labor or miscarriage. After 2 trimester, its ok to take but in limited supplements.

Fenugreek seeds :

Fenugreek seeds are fine to take up to moderate levels. Intake of seeds in 1st trimester or before delivery will lead to urine contractions, abortion, miscarriage, indigestion, vomiting, loose stools, etc., limit intake of seeds or avoid to the larger extent.
